Book 2: Fire on the Water
Objective: To reach Durenor and claim the Sommerswerd from Sommerlund's
ally. Beware: the Darklords have discovered your plans and intend to use
any means to stop you.
Significant Characters Met
- Captain D'val: A soldier of Sommerlund. You will meet him in later books.
- Vonotar the traitor he commands a death-hulk's fleet which attempts to
wreck your ship and stop you from returning with the Sommerswerd. His failure
angered the Darklords greatly.
- Szall: A weak and cowardly breed of Giaks. CS ranges from 10 to 11, EP
from 16 to 17
- Giak: Common enemy.
CS 15 EP :15 (surprisingly lower than their 'weaker' brethren the Szalls
)
- Drakkar: Dark warrior. See book 1. CS 16 to 17, EP 25 to 26.
- Helghast: These powerful
agents of the dark can change their hideous appearance and look like
ordinary people, making them great assassins.
This, coupled with the fact that they are immune to normal weapons, can
spell your doom when you feel steely fingers tighten around your throat
just as you remember that the guy that just passed happened to carry a
raven-black sword
They can be destroyed by a Magical Spear before
you find the Sommerswerd though, and they have a Cs of 22 and EP of 30,
along with a powerful psychic attack which subtracts 2 from your EP every
round if you do not have Mind Shield.
Significant places you can visit and things you discover.
- Durenor: Ally of Sommerlund where you will have to go to claim the Sommerswerd.
- Ragadorn: Remember
details of this city, for it will help you in verifying a Ragadorn merchant's
true identity in the near future
- Even a Kai lord can gamble. You can gamble over Samor (chess-like game),
'Portholes', and a game which resembles Russian roulette.
Goodies you
can get
- Sommerswerd: Hey, what else is this mission for?!?! This fabulous hunk'o'steel
gives you + 8 CS and is considered a sword when using Weaponskill. It does
double damage on undead opponents and is extra powerful in the presence
of evil, the Plane of Darkness, and sunlight. Its ability to absorb magic
and fire powerful beams of solar energy will give you an easy victory over
many foes and save your skin as many times. However, it radiates such a
goodly aura that evil beings can sense it and rush to destroy you, unless
you have a special scabbard found in later books.
- Healing potion: two varieties, which restore 3 or 4 EP depending on type.
- Shield: + 2 CS
- Seal of Hammerdall: The fabled Seal is needed to gain trust and help
from loyal Durenese and can get you out of many tight scrapes with distrustful
locals.
- Rope: used frequently to scale building and swing across chasms.
- Fine food: An unnecessary luxury you can buy if you are rich enough.
- Gold ring: Another unnecessary luxury.
- Fur Blankets: See 'Gold ring' and ' Fine food'.
- Orange liquid: ???? It appears that the orange liquid is a red herring.
- Gold Crowns.
- Weapons.
